Transportations in our Tokyo travel guide
As the capital of one of the world’s global city and richest economy, Tokyo is Japan’s largest domestic and international center with very efficient railways, buses and taxis and air transportation. An extensive network of clean trains and subways dominates Tokyo while monorails, trams and buses play secondary feeder roles.
Railway stations have significant roles to Japanese urban life like judging their lifestyle and habits by their proximity to these stations. Tokyo’s air transport offer mostly domestic travel while Narita is the country’s gateway for international travel. Taxis operate in special wards and cities not reached by trains while ferries connect Tokyo to its islands.
