Cafes and lounges in our Tokyo travel guide
Izakayas or Japanese style pubs are favorite after-office hangouts of “salary men” and office women who put in at 16 hour of work. Differentiated from other pubs with a red lantern and reasonably priced, it is customary not to pour your own drink.
Your pour theirs and they return the honor. Irish/English pubs and German beer halls are nice places to meet English speaking Japanese people but they are quite expensive. Japanese bars tend to be smaller and there are plenty in Tokyo. There are coffee shops that offer cheaper coffee but only half full because of aesthetic reasons. A full cup can be had at Starbucks but it is more expensive.
