The biggest city in Japan and the country’s capital city, Tokyo is considered to be a metropolis, consisting of more than 20 city wards and cities, about 8 villages and 5 towns.

 

Shopping in Tokyo

For the shopaholic, Shinjuku is the best place to be, it being the shopping, business, and entertainment district of Tokyo. For the kids, it is the Shibuya district. Other bargain shopping and discount areas are Harajuku, Asakusa, Odaiba, Ginza, Akihabara and Roppongi.

 

Temples in Tokyo

The temples are also a sight to see when in Tokyo. You can start with the Sensoji Temple found in the area of Asakusa. Then proceed to the Meiji Shrine, dedicated to the Emperor Meiji. The Sengakuji Temple is the burial place of 47 ronin. The deities of the dead during the Japanese war have a shrine dedicated to them at the Yasukuni Shrine. A Tokugawa family temple is the Zojoji Temple.

 

Gardens in Tokyo

Tokyo is also known for their beautiful landscape gardens such as Rikugien, Koishikawa Korakuen, Hama Rikyu, Palace East Gardens, which are the gardens found in the Imperial Palace, Ueno Park, and Shinjuku Gyoen. Mount Takao and Mount Mitake are wooded mountains found near the center of Tokyo. Other places to see in Tokyo are the Imperial Palace, found in central Tokyo, Tsukiji Fish Market, world’s biggest fish market, and Ryogoku, sumo world central.

 

Transportations in Tokyo

Transportation is not a problem in Tokyo, with its extensive network of trains, subways, and buses which circle the whole island and have stops in the different attractions of Tokyo, making them accessible to all. To spend the whole day in line to buy tickets is much of an inconvenience. It is better to get a day pass to travel within the Tokyo area. There are day passes that give you unlimited use of the subway lines, buses, streetcars, and trains for 24 hours only which cost around 1580 yen. For unlimited entrance on the subway lines only for also 24 hours, it would only cost you 1000 yen. The Tokyo Metro Open Ticket, which costs about 600 to 100 yen, depending on how long its duration will take effect is only available for several of the subway lines in Tokyo and can only be purchased at the Narita Airport and other travel agents. The best day pass you can purchase that will be worth what you paid for is the Holiday Pass, which costs 2300 yen. This gives you the privilege to use all trains, both local and rapid in one day but is only available during weekends and holidays.

 

Hotels and Hostels in Tokyo

Your visit to Japan can be adjusted to fit your budget. For those with a limited budget, they may opt to stay in dormitories and youth hostels and have their meals in fast food outlets and convenience stores for the quick sandwich or pre-cooked meals. Most attractions in Tokyo are free so you can enjoy going there using your day passes. If you have a bit more budget, you can try going to more places that charge admission prices. Tokyo is an enlightening experience for everyone who comes to visit, the definite place to be for exotic and spiritual fulfillment.
