Chicago City and Travel Guide
Pamper Your Inner Child in Chicago, Illinois
Anyone who feels the need to release his inner child is in luck because the city of Chicago is currently hosting the Art of Play Summer 2007 festival. Many events are being conducted in the city as part of this festival which will last until September 2007.
Events in Chicago
August 25 is a red-letter day for Chicago murder mystery fans because they will get to watch the murder mystery cum cabaret dinner show known as Sing for Your Supper: The Case of the Dying Divas.
On August 26, there will be the Playing with Your Food event where members of the towns community can participate in creating works of art using pieces of food. Tourists and natives alike can attempt to copy the artistic skills of pros (such as chefs and food artists) to produce food art that they can be proud of. On September 7, the Game Over event (OHM Multimedia Series) will be held in Chicago. In this event, musicians will fight it out with fellow musicians to create great musical pieces using laptops or 8-bit computers. Some famous musicians that Chicago visitors can cheer on are Atmospheric Audio Chair and DJ crew (among others.)
Summer festivals in Chicago
A visit to an Art of Play Summer festival in Chicago would not be complete without a trip to the Come In and Play site (found within the Chicago Tourism Center.) Here, Chicago visitors can experience playing with some of the toys and games hands-on; choose between traditional favorites and hot new arrivals. The Come In and Play site will help you understand the history of games made or thought up in Chicago itself. Or if you prefer, you can look instead at the artwork inspired by existing games and toys which are on display in the Chicago Tourism Center.
Niki de Saint Phalle sculptures
Also part of the Chicago Art of Play Summer 2007 festival is the ongoing Niki in the Garden exhibition of sculptures by Niki de Saint Phalle. Look for this exhibition at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago until October 31, 2007. On display at this Chicago conservatory will be more than 30 appealing outdoor sculptures which represent mythical figures, animals, and sports personalities, among others. One appealing aspect of these Chicago-based sculptures is that they permit visitors to sit on, crawl on, and even clamber up them – a great temptation for children of Chicago tourists. But since children get free admission anyway to this Chicago exhibition, playing on the sculptures is just an added bonus.
The family fun festival
Another reason to visit this wonderful city is the Family Fun Festival which started this August and will end in September 3, 2007. Children of Chicago tourists will get to personally participate in crafts projects at the Family Fun Activity Tent of this Chicago-based event. If the children of Chicago tourists tire of this, the whole family can enjoy another Chicago-based event which is the Family Fun Performance Stage where famous personalities in the Chicago entertainment scene will appear onstage. Another thing this town is offering which children of Chicago tourists will enjoy is the Wiggleworms folk dancing event. Here, folk music instructors will teach babies and toddlers of Chicago tourist families to participate in dancing and music classes. These children of Chicago tourists can sing, dance, do finger games, and handle rhythm instruments under the guidance of Chicago-based folk music experts.
