Go to China for Beijing Olympics in 2008

It would be great if you were able to visit Beijing, China for the 2008 Olympics. At present, preparation for the Olympic Games is busily being completed to meet that deadline. Beijing promises to be the place to be in 2008.

12 million people in Beijing

The city of Beijing is currently recognized as the capital of Communist China. It was named Beijing way back in 1421 by Emperor Chengzu of the Ming Dynasty, and was temporarily dubbed Peking until Chinese leaders renamed it Beijing again in 1949. Beijing is found at the northeastern region of the country with a continental climate combining hot summers and winters that are dry and cold. Beijing is quite densely populated, being home to around 12 million people.
As part of the government’s efforts to make the stay of officials and athletes in Beijing more comfortable, 50 buses using Li-ion electric batteries will be put into service for a route of three loop lines spanning 10.4 kilometers. This also makes the Olympics a ‘green’ event that promotes environmental awareness. So environmentalists can take heart that the Chinese government is espousing environmental practices that hopefully will expand in application to more uses even after the Olympics are over.

Good Luck Beijing program

The initial sports event that spectators can look forward to in the “Good Luck Beijing” program is the 2007 World Rowing Junior Championships which will be conducted in the newly-built Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. The Park, which has slalom and flatwater courses, was specially constructed for use during the 2008 Olympiad. This should whet the appetite of sports aficionados who are planning to be present in Beijing as early as 2007.

Guided tours in Beijing

Tourists who want to go around Beijing can opt for guided tours which may be conducted in English (for the benefit of English-speaking foreigners.) It is quite risky to go around Beijing with only a rudimentary command of Chinese since there are many dialects in Chinese and it is quite difficult for foreigners to grasp the calligraphy and phonetics of basic Chinese. If you opt to take the subway, buses, or other forms of transportation within the city, it would be nice if you had a friendly guide who knows both Chinese and English so he can translate signs and messages for you. It would also help if your bi-lingual guide were to stop you from going to places in the city that may be dangerous to go through (all cities have such places, right?)

The Great Wall of China, Forbidden City and the Tiananmen Square

The Olympics venues are not the only places you can look forward to seeing in Beijing. What is a visit to China without a climb to the top of the Great Wall of China, one of the great architectural and historical wonders of the country? You can also tour the Forbidden City, or take pictures of Tiananmen Square, which have ancient and modern historical significance, respectively. And if you get tired of wandering around the sites of Beijing, you can end your day by sampling great Chinese cuisine at some of the eating places that can be found practically anywhere.
So don’t hesitate – ask your travel agent to book you for a visit to Beijing this year or in 2008.

This is just a little summary about the city Beijing. Soon you can find reviews, forums, blogs and galleries.
