In Amsterdam, cafés or coffee shops do not only cater to coffee drinkers but to soft drug users as well. Since it is illegal to buy drugs on the street, coffee shop owners provide small quantities of soft drugs to patrons over 18 years of age.
They are not allowed to advertise their wares and only soft drugs are permitted to be bartered, not exceeding five grams per person for every transaction. On the other hand, there are still cafes and clubs that are always overflowing with people, mostly intellectuals and young ones, who are there to make friends and have fun.
